I woke up at 6am this morning after 8-hours of watching Slamdunk last night and roughly 7 hours of sleeping. This day is my free day and I scheduled the job interviews for the several companies who were bugging me during class hours last week.
First stop was IBM Daksh (do not ask me what the hell does daksh mean 'coz I don't know either), which was at the EDSA Central Pavilion Mall in Shaw. I arrived at the office at around 9:45, 15 minutes earlier than the required time. The place was cool, literally, the modern look and the freaking' room temperature, but I was rather hot and perspiring. The tension was getting the better of me.
I waited for quite some time before I heard this cute looking lady calling my name. "Mr. Orduña, Francis, please follow me...,” she said. I was with two other guys, one was far more nervous than I was and the other was a student like me. We entered the computer room where we took an examination on basic computer knowledge, logic and English grammar. Afterwards we took a typing master test wherein I (ehem) averaged 37 wpm with an accuracy of 97%. Ain't that good enough for someone who failed in all of his computer exams in elementary?
After spending some time in the freezing computer room, we were advised to wait again at the lobby for the oral assessment test.
Tick tock tick tock...
"Francis Orduña?!", again I heard that cute lady call. "Here (honey...haha) ma'am", I replied. The lady advised us (I was with a group of guys) to wait for a while for the oral assessment test which will be the last part of the evaluation. After a while, she came back and asked me and the guy beside me to follow her to the other room. "And now the end is near.. ", this was the song that played on my mind at that moment.
Several phone booths with headsets and landline units welcomed us as we entered the room. I felt butterflies in my stomach for I know that this part of the exam is the determining part of my application. "I must sound good and appear calm when talking", this was what I was thinking as we were left again by the cute lady.
Rriiiing! Rriiing!
"Good morning!", I answered. (F@#%! this is it).
If you want to know what transpired at the phone conversation, kindly go to IBM Daksh and ask for the record of my conservation with the cute lady. (I cannot share this part to you because I feel that it's embarrassing).
Sadly, after all those effort, sweat, and tension, I ended up only on the active list of Daksh applicants. Why? It's because I'm still studying and the company was not accepting working students at the moment. (For crying out loud) why the hell did Jobstreet sent me here, knowing that the company does not accommodate working students. Haaaaayyyyyy.
Anyway, I still have to get to Robinsons Equitable tower for my next interview and I only have 15 minutes to get there. Luckily, Ortigas was just a few blocks away.
I arrived at People i Connect, 5 minutes shy of being late. However, I still waited for 30 minutes because the management waited for the other applicants. "Grrrrrr", my stomach roared. It was almost two when we started with the written assessment and I haven't eaten lunch yet except for two pieces of mentos power gum. Fortunately, the test was personality based and just took me 15 minutes to finish. Had it been any logic or mind-boggling type of test, I would have collapsed already.
Alls well that ends well. Hopefully, I was able to satisfy the evaluators with my answers and have a call tomorrow. Pray for me.
